Arthur proclaims March Disability Awareness Month

Friday, March 5, 2004

Mayor Tom Arthur poses with Forest Park Elementary students and staff members Wednesday morning in the school's gymnasium, shortly after proclaiming March Disability Awareness Month in Brazil. "Inclusion Now," a community-based project being organized by the Indiana Governor's Planning Council for People with Disabilities, was also being celebrated at Forest Park.

In his proclamation, Arthur stated, "Through increased awareness of such programs (for people with disabilities), the public will better understand the needs and ultimate potential of people with disabilities."

"I think it is important that members of our community who are disabled increase awareness of the needs and concerns of fellow citizens who has disabilities," Mayor Arthur said.

After Arthur's speech, pre-school students gave him with gifts they had made and he was presented with a poster promoting Inclusion Now to hang in City Hall. He also signed the students' Disability Awareness Month banner.
