Rob Moore and Vanita Moore (left) are presented with a Community Improvement Award from Mayor Tom Arthur and City Council President Ann Bradshaw.

Moore Funeral Home became the most recent in a list of businesses presented with the Community Improvement Award yesterday.

Mayor Tom Arthur presented Rob and Vanita Moore with the certificate yesterday afternoon. Also in attendance was City Council President Ann Bradshaw.

Arthur said that the funeral home was given the award for a couple of reasons.

"The fact that since they've been back, they've spent a lot of energy and money on the properties is a big part of it," Arthur said. "They've spent a lot of that time and money remodeling and refurbishing.

"That's not all they did to make community improvement, though," Arthur continued. "Rob's got a lot of years firefighting behind his belt. When I was selecting the Fire Chief, he gave me a lot of information about this program and that program."

Moore said that the business was happy about the recognition.

"Sometimes we wonder if people notice what we do, and we appreciate when we're noticed," he said. "This isn't just a reward for the funeral home ... we own some of the properties around it and we've done a lot of work on them, too."

Moore said that he found himself cleaning and weedeating areas of the street that he didn't own at times.

"We take pride in this street," he said.
