A Center Point woman died in a one car accident at 4:50 p.m. Saturday afternoon. According to Indiana State Police, Christian D. Hamman, 23, was traveling on CR 200 E, Harmony Road, near the I-70 overpass. When her 1988 Ford Bronco went left of center, she apparently overcorrected causing the vehicle to flip several times.
Hamman was pronounced dead at the scene by Clay County Coroner Rick Swearingen Jr. He believed the victim died instantly of massive head injuries. Swearingen said there was almost no intrusion into the driver's compartment of the vehicle and that lack of a seat belt was probably instrumental in Hamman's death. She was transported to Regional Hospital where an autopsy will be performed.
Harmony Road was closed to traffic for about an hour. Air Evac was called in and a cooperative neighbor allowed the helicopter to land in her pasture. However, Air Evac was unable to assist because the victim had already expired. It was the first flight for the Brazil-based unit.
Investigating officer was Trooper Kris Fitzgerald. Assisting State Police with the accident were Jackson Twp. Vol. Fire Department, Search and Rescue, Clay County Sheriff's Department and Center Point Police Department.
