An angry 10-year-old boy took a three-mile walk Tuesday night, prompting a multi-county search, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Department.
Kenny Spangler, 10, of Poland, the son of Gary and Brenda Cooper, was apparently mad at his sister when he decided to go on the three-mile trek, making it to Owen County before he was found. Police were called at 6:30 p.m.
Detective Michael Heaton of the Sheriff's Department said various organizations assisted in the search for Michael before he was found by Owen County firefighters. Among others, Poland Fire Department's Search and Rescue Team, Owen County's Sherriff's Department, and State Farm's Canine Tracking group attempted to find Spangler.
A helicopter from the Brazil Air Evac base also assisted in the search, deploying a helicopter to fly over the path Spangler took.
Heaton said that he, along with Detective Doug Smiley and Deputy Doug Barr, went door-to-door to ask people if they'd seen Spangler. A couple of people recalled seeing him walking east on SR 42. Spangler was missing approximately three hours.
The little boy was fine when he was found. Heaton said no criminal charges would be filed.
"Kenny's going to be writing a lot of thank-you letters to the organizations that were looking for him," he said.
