United Way: Coalition provides undergrad support

Friday, April 30, 2004

The Clay County Literacy Coalition, 203 N. Walnut St., Brazil, provides assistance to undergraduate adults to help them improve their reading skills so that they may find employment and reach new goals in life. Training is one-on-one and confidential. There is no charge for the class and the Literacy Coalition provides all materials.

They also tutor inmates at the County Jail and ESL (English as the second language) students.

The Coalition is funded by the United Way of Clay County. Volunteer tutors spend at least one hour and as many hours a week as are agreed upon between the tutor and the student.

Their mission is to help as many non-readers as possible in Clay County. They want to let the public know they are willing to help and are currently looking for new ways to reach out and let people know who they are.
