Spring must be here. Robins are flying. Trees are leafing. And the Women of Vision are at work adorning the streets of Brazil with fragrant flowering florets.
Jan Stapp and Vickie Mace, with other volunteer helpers, decorated the downtown business area, the mini park at the internsection of SR 59 and US 40 and around the light posts and gazebo at Forest Park.
Fifty-six pots and various plant boxes or areas throughout town have been filled with an array of new wave red, white and purple petunias with purple fountain grass. The cost of the project, over several thousand dollars, is met solely with donations.
"We're giving a plea for help," Stapp said Thursday while planting flowers at the west end of town with the help of Loretta Pierce. "Besides money contributions, we are really in need of workers to help care for the plants throughout the summer.
"The merchants do a wonderful job of helping water but we still have to check on them," Stapp explained. "We're looking for other couples to work one week each month to check on and water the plants. The truck and water tank will be furnished."
Financial donations can be sent to the Clay Civic Memorial Foundation at P.O. Box 94, Brazil, In 47834. Anyone wishing to volunteer or who has questions should call Stapp at 442-1423 or Mace at 442-1844.
