You've seen them in the newspaper, on TV or live in mock Civil War battles. They are called reenactors and, just like Uncle Sam, they want YOU.
Reenactors will be recruiting starting at 2 p.m. Sunday in Forest Park. Ages 11-70 are welcome to meet and learn more about becoming reenactors, said Kelly Rollings, one of the organizers, on Thursday.
In addition to the American Civil War, reenactors are needed to dress in appropriate uniforms representing Roman, French and Indiana soldiers up to and including WW II.
Presentations will be made on how to join and become a reenactor.
Long time reenactor Charles V. Young from Champaign, Ill., will be representing the Ancient Combat Society. He has been reenacting 32 years and dramatized numerous time periods. He is creating a youth group for ages 11 and up, male and female, to portray Roman Legionnaires. He will meet with youths, their parents and anyone interested in becoming a member of this worldwide hobby.
Things to be discussed are cost, making or purchasing equipment, attending events, and film and movie opportunities. Also on hand will be other reenactors representing other time periods.
"If you ever wanted to know what it would be like to live, drill, and fight like your ancestors, now is your chance," Rollings said.
