Ready for the fireworks -- 4th of July program planned and scheduled

We are just a little over six weeks away from the 4th of July Independence Day holiday. So, Brazil Rotarians are feverishly beating the bushes to prepare for the 69th annual celebration at Forest Park.

Due to the 4th falling on a Sunday, there have been some questions asked in the community. The answers are:

- Yes, fireworks will be on Sunday, the 4th.

- Yes, the grand prize drawing for the $10,000 cash prize will be on Sunday, the 4th.

- Yes, there will be a carnival again this year.

The last question/rumor has probably been circulating because the Popcorn Festival, scheduled this fall, will not have a carnival. But the Rotary carnival is set and the Midway should be rolling on the 4th and the days preceding it.

Speaking of rolling, here is the schedule, as it now stands, according to Rotary President Sam Crawn and Web site (www.brazilrotary.org) administrator Susan Thomas:

June 26: SIRA Go-kart practice -- times to be announced, 6:30 p.m. Northview High School Drill Team, 8:30 p.m. Brazil Community Choir

June 27: Dunlop/SIRA Go-kart Classic, noon-5 p.m., 8 p.m. Brazil Concert Band

June 28: 4-8 p.m. Jonah Fish Fry (proceeds support Northview and clay city high school bands, tickets cost $5.50 in advance and $6 at the door for adults, $3.50 in advance and $4 at the door for children), 5:30 p.m. Midway opens-pay one price, 6 p.m. Tumble Express Dance Studio

June 29: 2 p.m. Midway open-pay one price, 5:30 p.m. Moore's Dance Studio, 6:30 p.m. YMCA Dance Factory

June 30: 2 p.m. Midway opens-pay one price, 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. The Van-Dells in two shows

July 1: 5:30 p.m. Midway opens-pay one price, 6 p.m. Toni's Dance Studio

July 2: 5:30 p.m. Midway opens-pay one price, 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. The Hoskins Family Southern Gospel music in two shows

July 3: 5:30 p.m. Midway opens-pay one price, 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. The Fabulous 40s Band with special guest soloists in two shows

July 4: 1-5 p.m. The 28th annual sack races in Forest Park, 2-6 p.m. Midway opens-pay one price, 6 p.m. single tickets only on Midway, 8 p.m. Brazil Concert Band, 10 p.m. Gala fireworks show with musical accompaniment on WSDM 97.7 FM, 11 p.m. drawing for $10,000 grand prize

Remember, Rotary will draw tickets each night for many prizes. Tickets are available for $5 each or three for $10 from any Rotarian. See Frank Phillips or Evan Wade at The Times if you want to buy tickets. Proceeds go to support local groups.

Many people wait until July 4 to buy tickets, but they miss the opportunity to win daily prizes, said Rotarian Ticket Chairman Bill McDonald at a recent meeting.
