Shelter named in Crabb's honor

Friday, May 21, 2004

Kenny Crabb and his wife Phyllis turn to face the crowd that gathered for the ceremony to dedicate the new gazebo-style shelter at Forest Park to the former mayor. It is located behind the right field fence at the park's softball diamond. A net was put up to keep those enjoying the shelter from being hit with a homerun ball.

Crabb said that he was "at a loss for words". He spent three years in the Army, 39 years in the school system and 12 years as mayor. "After 54 years of service," he told the crowd, "I guess it's time I relaxed and enjoy it." He added that he has enjoyed the free time with his wife the past few months. Crabb gave thanks and invited all the community to come out and enjoy the shelter that bears his name.
