The garden of Larry and Sue Davis, located at 424 E. Oak St., has been a work in progress over the past 30 years but has only really begun to flourish in the past 10. The garden was already established when the Davises moved in but all of that is gone now and it is only what Larry, Sue and the rest of their family have planted. Sue says the garden blooms all year long and it is nice to see its progress each day. The garden is home to a variety of trees, hostas, bushes, lilies, shrubs, flowers, vegetables, fruits, trellises, arbors, several stone paths, two ponds and collections of windchimes and birdfeeders all encased by a picket fence.
Sue says it is designed to be a yard that the whole family can enjoy, which one can tell by the various playground equipment, children's handprints in stone and an area designated for a bonfire for camping out or BBQs. This is also where Larry has his woodworking shop, where he has carved things like old wooden poles into caricatures and transformed two old church pews into seats for a handcrafted tile table. Next to the shop is a tool shed to harbor the gardening supplies.
Sue says she enjoys gardening, planning the garden and seeing the textures of the plants and how it all looks together. She likes to do this all from the comfort of her porch, where there are several sitting areas.
