The Brazil Board of Works and Safety met on Tuesday morning in the Council Chambers.
The Board approved a year-long contract between the City of Brazil and William M. White, Operator of Record, Certification No. 9045 Class III. Under the agreement, White will serve as the operator of record at the Wastewater Treatment Plant for $1,200 per month. He will take the position soon and provide his services for one year from the date when he starts.
An agreement with Resources Conservation Services, LLC, was also approved by the Board. The company will complete the necessary work for the city to obtain a land permit with IDEM for the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Mayor Tom Arthur said the land permit will be used as a back-up plan in case IDEM insists that Brazil change its current process for disposal of sludge. Otherwise, the plant will continue to operate as usual.
The Board additionally approved a fire contract with IVC. The Brazil Fire Department will have men on standby in case of fire at IVC as the company's insurance policy requires. The city will provide this service for $100 per month. Brazil has similar contracts with Great Dane and Technifab.
Adjustments to water and sewer bills and claims for the utilities office were also approved during the meeting.
The Board will meet again on July 13, immediately after the Brazil Common Council meeting in the Council Chambers at City Hall. The Council meeting will start at 7 p.m.
