Exxon, beware! With the price of gasoline at an all time high this year, Tom and Phyllis Modesitt decided to drive their horse and buggy into town Wednesday.
"Hay's cheaper than gas," Phyllis said.
The Modesitts bought the horse, Star, from an Amish family in Rockville about a month ago. They had a mule before, but it was a little slow.
"It was like going from a Model-T to a Cadillac," Tom said.
The man who owned the horse said they just rode it to church but it was too slow for them.
"He's plenty fast enough for us," Tom quipped.
They've had no problems with traffic. Apparently Star is used to motor vehicles. However, the Modesitts take the road less traveled. They live on Twin Beach Road and took the back ways, entering Brazil on Hendrix Street.
While the Modesitts don't ride the horse and buggy exclusively, they have been out and about in it every day for the past two or three weeks.
