Charges were filed Wednesday in Clay Circuit Court against Tom J. Roberts of Brazil for one Count of Deviate Sexual Conduct and one Count of Child Molesting.
Indiana State Police Det. Tony Guinn, stated that he investigated allegations that Roberts had molested a 6-year-old female juvenile, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Roberts was interviewed July 8, and denied that he had touched the juvenile in an inappropriate manner or participated in any inappropriate activities with the juvenile.
During a July 13 interview, Roberts said that approximately four weeks earlier, he did participate in inappropriate activity with the juvenile.
Roberts was arrested July 13 and booked into the Clay County Jail. Bond was set at $25,000 and the defendant is to have no contact with the complaining witness.
Deviate sexual conduct is a Class B Felony, punishable by 10 years in jail and up to a $10,000 fine.
Child molesting is a Class C Felony that can carry a four-year imprisonment and a $10,000 fine.
Roberts remains in the Clay County Jail. His initial hearing was Thursday and trial is set for 9 a.m. Sept. 13.
