A chemical odor led Brazil City Police to search an apartment building at Central West Village last week. The search lead to the discovery of several items consistent with the manufacture of methamphetamine.
Police Chief Mark Loudermilk issued a statement late Friday night reporting Capt. Andy Whittington responded to apartment B-1 at Central West Village shortly before 7 p.m. last Tuesday. Neighbors had reported a suspicious smell coming from the apartment.
Upon investigation, Whittington believed the odor was chemical in nature and asked Sgt. Dave Archer and Officer Clint McQueen to respond to the scene as well.
Ronald James Londo, 31, of Terre Haute and Melissa Gilbert, 28, a resident of the apartment, were removed from the apartment for safety reasons.
Gilbert consented to a search of the residence. Police found items in the apartment and in the dumpster consistent with the manufacture of meth.
Indiana State Police were called to the scene with a meth lab team.
State Police officers determined there had been a working meth lab on the premises and Londo was arrested and taken to the Clay County Jail on Class A Felony manufacture of methamphetamine charges.
