A collision occurred Monday just after noon in front of the Pilot station on South SR 59. The Clay County Sheriff's Department, Clay County Search and Rescue and Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department responded. The driver of the SUV was conscious after the accident, but was put on a stretcher and taken away from the scene in an ambulance. The semi driver said he was not making any statements except to the police. "All I know is he come flying out of nowhere," he said. Lynn Hamilton photo

A semi pulled out in front of an SUV near the I-70 intersection Monday causing possible injury to one man and major damage to his vehicle.

Knightsville resident Gary Dellmo, 44, was northbound on SR 59 about noon in his 1999 Ford SUV. When he approached the Pilot Travel Center, a semi tractor-trailer driven by John Zimbeco Jr., Bridgeport, Ohio, pulled out onto SR 59 in front of Dellmo's vehicle.

Dellmo was unable to stop and his SUV collided with the semi. The driver side front of his vehicle stopped slightly under the semi trailer. Dellmo was transported to St. Vincent Clay Hospital by Athens Ambulance. His condition was not known at press time.

Dep. Brian Pierce investigated.
