Brazil First United Methodist Church will open a public pre-school in time for the upcoming school year.
The goal of the pre-school is to prepare children for kindergarten and elementary school while teaching Christian values and providing a mission and ministry to the community. A pre-kindergarten class will be offered on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 11 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. - 2:15 p.m. These classes are open to children scheduled to enter kindergarten in the fall of 2005 and have had their fourth birthday by July 1.
The pre-school class will be offered on Tuesday and Thursday for children who will be in kindergarten in the fall of 2006 and have had their third birthday by July 1, 2004. These classes will run from 9 a.m.- 11 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m.
The cost of the school will be $80 per month for pre-k and $65 for pre-school. A non-refundable registration fee of $35 is due at time of registration.
"In the spring we had the 40 Days of Purpose which caused us to look at our community and see what needs exist. It also caused us to look within ourselves to see where God is leading us," Pastor Tony Alstott said. "That combination inspired us to create a pre-school that is affordable and yet maintains a high quality learning environment."
Chris Pestoff will serve as the pre-school's director. She has a degree in early childhood from Indiana State University, 24 years of teaching experience and is the nursery director for the church.
Pestoff said the church is the ideal setting for the educational environment of the pre-school and she would like to see it as an outreach to the community.
"I'm absolutely thrilled to have an opportunity to work with the church and the community," Pestoff said.
The pre-school's first day of class will be Aug. 23 and the school year will end on May 20. Between the start and end dates the preschool will follow the Clay Community School calendar. An open house will be held Aug. 5, 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. The pre-school is also taking suggestions for a name for the pre-school.
