A Brazil man was recently charged with child molesting. Lonnie Moody, 52, was arrested and booked into the Clay County jail July 23, for allegedly fondling or touching a 9-year-old female with the intent to arouse or satisfy his sexual desires, according to the probable cause statement from Brazil Chief of Police Mark Loudermilk.
The incidents occurred between Jan. 2, 2004, and June 19, 2004. When Moody learned of the accusations, but prior to his arrest, he checked into a VA Hospital in Illinois. According to the statement, Moody admitted on tape to the molesting charges. The statement also says that Moody admitted to similar crimes with other children in the early 1970's.
Moody posted bond and was released from jail July 27. A trial is set for Sept. 13, in the Clay Circuit Court. The Class C child molesting charge is punishable by up to four years in jail and up to a $10,000 fine.
In other reports, Frank Johnson, who was arrested for OVWI on July 31, had an initial arraignment in court Tuesday morning. An investigation is continuing on allegations that he attempted to abduct three young girls at the Hillman's Market in Poland.
Johnson entered a plea of not guilty. A pre-trial conference is set for 8:30 a.m. Oct. 18, with trial scheduled for Nov. 1. He remains in the Clay County jail.
