In a press conference Friday morning, Mayor Tom Arthur announced the resignation of Brazil Clerk-treasurer Pat Whistler. By state law, Arthur said her replacement would be Deputy Clerk-treasurer Tracy Webster.
Webster, however, is tentative about taking over Whistler's duties as she has only been in her current position for a few weeks. Arthur said she will have an answer for him by Monday and he will make an announcement regarding her decision.
In the meantime, Webster is doing her best to perform the necessary tasks with the help of former Deputy Clerk-Treasurer Lori Brown, who is also employed at City Hall. Payroll came in Friday, but pay day is not until next Thursday and Arthur stated that making sure all city employees are paid on time is "one of our primary goals".
As for rumors that Whistler was asked to resign, Arthur said, " I can't speak for other departments." He claimed that he had not personally advised Whistler on the matter, nor had the City Council formally discussed it.
