An accident took the life of one driver and hospitalized three others, authorities say.
The accident occurred at approximately 5:10 p.m. Sunday in southeastern Clay County. According to a report from the Clay County Sheriff's Department, Amber L. Jolly, 21, of Clay City, crossed into the path of a pickup pulling a horse trailer, driven by Richard Bowers, 43, of Terre Haute, on C.R. 200.
The accident engulfed Jolly's car in flames. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The horse trailer hooked to the truck was overturned; none of the three horses in the vehicle were hurt. Bowers and his two passengers, Mary Jo Bowers, 38, and Cody Bowers, 14, were transported to St. Vincent Clay Hospital, where they were treated and released.
The accident is under investigation by the Clay County Sheriff's Department and Indiana State Police Accident Reconstructionist C. Carter. Assisting at the scene were Jackson Township VFD, Clay County Search and Rescue, Athens Ambulance, and the Department of Natural Resources. Air Evac responded to the scene but the patients did not require transport.
