The Clay County Sheriff's Department is hoping that dental records will definitely confirm the identity of a body found Sunday in a culvert under U.S. 40 east of Staunton.
Sheriff Rob Carter said they found a credit card on the man, who had a single gunshot wound to the head.
"We had a name on a credit card and that matched up with a person who hasn't been seen for quite a while," Carter said. "The name matches a person from Vigo County."
It has still not yet been confirmed whether the gunshot wound was self- inflicted or is a homicide. The investigation is continuing and police hope to confirm the man's identity today.
