Charges were filed in Clay Superior Court Aug. 10, against a Clay County man for child molesting. Timothy J. Mendenhall, 40, Clay City, was charged with Class B Felony child molesting.
Mendenhall allegedly performed or submitted to sexual intercourse and/or deviate sexual conduct with a juvenile under the age of 14. In a probable cause affidavit, Indiana State Police Trooper/Investigator Gary W. Hoskins said the recurring acts of molestation occurred during a period from Dec. 2002 to July 2004. According to the affidavit, Mendenhall admitted that he had been molesting the victim.
A Class B Felony Child Molesting is punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Mendenhall remains in the Clay County jail with $25,000 bond, no 10 percent. His initial hearing was Thursday in Clay Superior Court. A pre-trial conference was set for 8:30 a.m. Nov. 11. Trial is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Dec. 6.
