A Clay County man died in a two vehicle accident in Terre Haute Thursday afternoon. Walter L. Williams III, 23, of Carbon was pronounced dead at the scene. Terre Haute Police Capt. Kevin Mayes said alcohol may have contributed to the accident.
Mayes reported that Williams was southbound on Monterey Avenue about 1 p.m. in his pick-up truck traveling toward the Crawford Street intersection. Williams disregarded a stop sign and was hit by a vehicle driven by David Goeller, 69, of Terre Haute. Goeller, who had no stop sign at the intersection, was not injured.
The cause of Williams' death has not been determined. An autopsy will be performed today. Mayes said it can not be determined if alcohol was a factor until testing is completed in the ongoing investigation.
