Laura DeMers was busy signing up golfers Saturday morning. She hoped many, many more would turn out for the 7th annual Bill Collins Memorial Golf Scramble at Forest Park.
"We never know how many to expect," she said. "People show up at the last minute."
The last minute Saturday was to be at 1 p.m. when the shotgun start began. DeMers hoped as much as $4,000 would be raised to benefit the Clay County Humane Society's animal shelter, located just off White Rock Road.
Events included a putting contest with a $30 gift card going to the best putter.
Special hole contests included closest to the pin and hole in one on hole 2, a hole in one on hole 5, longest putt on hole 9, a hole in one on hole 11 and the longest drive in the fairway on hole 18.
Prizes included a trip for two, a vacation for two, Wilson Fat Shaft irons, a Casino Aztar hotel package, Gevalia gourmet coffee and a $10,000 cash prize.
