Tracy Webster is the new Brazil City Clerk Treasurer. Mayor Tom Arthur swore in Webster last night after the announcement.
The vacancy arose when former Clerk Treasurer Pat Whistler resigned Aug. 5, citing job stress and wanting to spend more time with her family as her reasons.
The Democratic Party caucused last night at the Brazil Township Trustee's Office. Voting caucus members were Marcia Tozer, Brazil Precinct 1; C.R. Boyd, Brazil 2; Ann Bradshaw, Brazil 3; Roy Kellar Brazil 4; Lena Whistler, Brazil 6 and Carolyn Beasley, Jackson 3.
The State Board of Accounts are currently checking financial records at City Hall. However, they are just doing routine audits on the 2002 and 2003 books. The Mayor's office said they are not checking the 2004 records at this time.
Webster, a Brazil native and resident, was given the Deputy Clerk Treasure job about five weeks ago when then Deputy Clerk Treasurer Lori Brown changed jobs moving to the Water Works Department. Webster was made interim Clerk Treasurer Aug. 5, after Whistler resigned.
"I was an administrative assistant at Indiana State University for years and had the same type of responsibilities," Webster said from her office this morning.
"I feel like I've learned a lot in the past month and I've had good training. I'm sure I can do a successful job. I really appreciate those who voted for me. They have been very supportive."
