Sinfonietta looking for musicians, starting season

Thursday, September 16, 2004

The Terre Haute Sinfonietta Symphonic Pops Orchestra, the city's second orchestra, will begin its 15th musical season on Nov. 14.

The orchestra features close to 60 local musicians. It has professional woodwind, brass, and percussion sections. The orchestra does need more string players, however. They are looking for those who play violin, viola, and cello, among other string instruments. Anyone who can play these strings should contact conductor Dr. Earle R. Melendy at 812-299-2659 for an interview. All candidates will be considered with no age or experience restrictions.

The Sinfonietta will kick off their fall season with "Spirit of the Waters."

In keeping with the Sinfonietta goal of supporting all local talent, the narrator for this program will be the morning anchor of WTHI TV, Susan Dinkel.

The program will also feature the baritone Thomas Potter in a rendition from the musical showboat "Old Man River."

In addition, the Academy of Dance will be featured on the program.
