Area employers expect to hire at a brisk pace during the fourth quarter of 2004, according to the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey.
From October to December, 37 percent of the companies interviewed plan to hire more employees while 3 percent intend to reduce their workforce. Another 60 percent expect to maintain their current staff levels, said Manpower spokesperson Lori Leo.
"The Terre Haute area employment outlook is weaker than the third quarter forecast when 50 percent of the companies interviewed intended to take on more staff, while 3 percent planned to decreased headcount," said Leo. "A year ago, employers were less confident about hiring when 27 percent of companies surveyed thought employment increases were likely and 10 percent intended to cut back."
Job prospects appear strongest in construction, durable goods manfacturing, transportation/ public utilities and wholesale/ retail trade.
