Clay City places 8th in State

Monday, October 25, 2004

The Clay City Imperial Regiment competed in the ISSMA Class D State Marching Band Finals last Saturday at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis. The band placed 8th out of 10 bands.

Woodlan HS (Woodburn) placed first while Paoli HS placed second.

Competition was ex-tremely close with only four points separating first through eighth places.

Band Director Kevin Reberger said, "We certainly didn't have our best show today. When you don't have a rock solid performance you are more vulnerable to judging inconsistency. On Saturday I feel like we fell victim to the most inconsistent judging that I have ever experienced. Of the six judges, Woodlan won four while Clay City won two. Obviously, Woodlan was the best band on Saturday and deserved to win. However, I have never heard of a band winning two judges, especially music and visual general effect as Clay City did, and still finishing 8th. Despite how it ended, we had a great season and I am very proud of our students and their numerous accomplishments."
