To her former teachers at Northview High School, Tanette Dickison is much more than a faceless murder victim. To them, she was the personification of beauty.
In spite of their grief and desperate attempts to understand the tragic demise of the teenager, who Principal Jim Church said everyone called Toni, educators remember Dickison as a lovely young woman.
"She was one of my favorite people," said Church, an assistant principal when Dickison was at NHS. "She was just a beautiful person on the outside, and she had a heart just as beautiful on the inside."
Teachers have been streaming into Church's office since hearing of her death, and they remember her as a sweet, respectful girl. Her brother Larry previously graduated from NHS, and her sister Virgie, who friends call Gigi, is an honor student there now.
"We're just very, very saddened. She just was really a neat kid. She was just a genuine, really neat young lady," Church said, his voice breaking. "She was a beautiful, just beautiful young lady. Like a model. You would have liked her."
