With a community-wide desire to beautify the city in mind, Brazil Planning Administrator Michele Driscoll is organizing Brush Up Brazil 2005, hosted by the city and scheduled in conjunction with Earth Week.
All residents, community leaders, schools, clubs and organizations, retail merchants, neighborhoods and other volunteers are invited to participate in the event set for 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, at City Hall. Coffee, milk and donuts will be served to all volunteers interested in participating in the event.
At a recent meeting, Driscoll told Brazil City Council members some volunteers have ex-pressed interest, but additional persons are necessary to complete the projects planned for the clean-up day.
The morning's activities will include pulling and spraying weeds, cleaning a park, painting curbs, picking up litter, planting flowers and taking part in a block cleanup. Driscoll also requests that volunteers provide their own work gloves and brooms if possible.
Those who are unable to donate their time have the option of giving the gift of materials. Needed items include weed killer, flower plants or seeds, paint brushes and buckets for paint. Paint and trash bags will be available through the city.
