A lack of volunteers may mean the public is brushing off the first annual Brush Up Brazil Day.
At the Tuesday meeting of the Brazil City Council, City Planning Administrator Michele Driscoll told Council members she hasn't heard from very many volunteers interested in participating in the event set for 9 a.m. to noon this Saturday at City Hall.
As it turns out, she explained, school children have a three-day weekend, and Relay for Life is also scheduled for this weekend. Those two factors may be contributing to a low level of interest.
A homeschooling group and real estate agency are among those planning on participating, and Vectren and Cinergy have donated funds to hang a banner across National Ave. Driscoll said she's disappointed the banner still hasn't been placed across the roadway, and said it may have to wait for next year's Brush Up Brazil Day.
While the event is still on for Saturday, the clean-up day will be canceled if there is inclement weather. Groups or individuals interested in volunteering may call Driscoll at 443-2221, ext. 106 for further details.
