Cloverdale player injured in Clay City basketball game

Thursday, January 6, 2005

A Cloverdale High School basketball player is in Methodist Hospital following an injury on the Clay City High School basketball court Monday night.

Hanna McGuire, daughter of Rick and Lori McGuire, received a head injury during the game.

Sonny Stoltz, Cloverdale High School athletic director, said there has been much speculation about the injury and the facts are not clear, but, "There was a rough moment with a loose ball. She got run over and her head hit the floor," he told The Brazil Times Tuesday morning.

Hanna walked off the court but began feeling ill later.

She was driven to St. Vincent Clay Hospital in Brazil and then transferred by ambulance to Methodist Hospital at Indianapolis. Medical personnel wanted to fly her by Lifeline Helicopter, but were unable to do so because of the weather.

At Methodist Hospital, Hanna was placed in a drug-induced coma temporarily.

By Tuesday morning she was brought out of the coma and her condition was improving.
