As the rain flooded rivers and forced area residents from their homes, the Red Cross was there.
Disaster relief assistance is now available for residents in Clay, Greene, Parke, Sullivan, Vermillion and Vigo counties forced from their homes by the recent flood.
"We encourage families in need to seek assistance," American Red Cross Executive Director Carol Stevens said.
Flood victims in need of a safe and dry place to stay until they can return home can call the American Red Cross at (812) 232-3393. The number is monitored 24 hours a day.
Representatives from the Red Cross will be at Moore Funeral Home today, distributing home Clean-Up Kits to qualified flood victims.
A grant, made possible through contributions, makes shelter, food, counseling and other forms of assistance available to disaster victims in times of need without expectation of repayment or reimbursement.
