Elements of a plan for Clay County is going to the 4Community steering committee.
On Saturday morning at Traditions in downtown Brazil, a committee of volunteers met to think through vision statements, mission statements and to set goals for eight areas of concern in Clay County. The eight areas included beautification and historical preservation, communications, government issues, lifelong learning, social concerns and issues and youth.
"We are writing a plan for Clay County," Carolyn Kumpf told the group while introducing Jim Dittoe of Winning Communities, Carmel, Ind.
Dittoe then passed out a sheet about attitudes and told the group of about 30 people, "The attitude I've seen in Clay County has been really terrific."
For the next 3 1/2 hours, the group toiled in small groups, crafting a community vision statement supported by a mission statement, supported by goals, supported by an action plan based on each of the eight areas of concern.
Some groups did not complete their action plans and will meet again on a group-by-group basis.
The plans will then be turned in to Dittoe who will present them to the local 4Community steering committee.
"Then, it's up to the community," Dittoe said.
The steering committee will have to decide what the overall plan will be and find ways to motivate residents to implement the plan to improve the county.
