A driver who fell asleep at the wheel is apparently responsible for a semi accident on I-70 near Brazil Monday.
A Clay County Sheriff's Department spokesman confirmed a WTHI-TV report that said crews worked for several hours to clean up the accident. Around 11 a.m., the semi, carrying oil, diesel fuel and three other semi cabs, collided with the guardrail.
The Clay County Sheriff's Department said the semi travelled several hundred feet before sliding off the road and into a wooded area.
Hazmat teams responded, trying to contain the spill before it gets into the water system.
The driver of the truck is believed to have fallen asleep at the wheel. He was taken to St. Vincent Clay Hospital and released. He was then taken to a Terre Haute hospital for a chemical screening to see if any drugs or alcohol were in his bloodstream.
