The Harmony Town Council is holding a special meeting on Thursday, Jan. 13, at the Van Buren Township Firehouse. The meeting starts at 7 p.m.
This special session was called to discuss a beautification project along U.S. 40. The public is invited to attend and voice their opinions on this project.
Several residents have been concerned about the deterioration of sidewalks. Some areas have no sidewalks along the highway. More new streetlights may be needed in the area near the post office and Simple Pleasures.
Some residents think the Harmony signage is small and hard to see, especially at night.
The Council is trying to address these concerns by starting a renovation project to add sidewalks reaching from the west to the east side of the town limits. New Welcome-to-Harmony signs could be added at each end of town.
It is hoped that a beautification project will not only address safety concerns but also attract economic development to a prime but often overlooked location. The Council wants to hear from the residents of Harmony regarding the direction they want them to go with this project.
