Five people arrested on meth charges

Five people were arrested in Clay County on Wednesday on a variety of methamphetamine related charges. Arrested were:

- James J. Hansen, 32, charged with dealing meth as a Class A Felony. Bond was set at $50,000 with 10 percent not allowed.

- Aaron Burk, 28, charged with possession of meth with the intent to deliver, a Class A Felony. Bond was set at $50,000 with 10 percent not allowed.

- Shelly L. Burk, 26, charged with possession of meth with intent to deliver, a Class A Felony. Bond was set at $50,000 with 10 percent not allowed.

- Gregory J. Vanes, 26, charged with possession of meth with intent to deliver, a Class A Felony. Bond was set at $50,000 with 10 percent not allowed.

- Brandi D. Howlett, 20, charged with possession of meth and possession of a controlled substance. Bond was set at $7,000 with 10 percent not allowed.

Aaron Burk, Shelly Burk and Gregory Vanes were arrested from traffic stops. Addresses of those arrested were not known at press time.

Search warrants were also served on residences connected with some of those arrested. In addition to the arrests, officers seized a large quantity of methamphetamine and several thousand dollars cash.

The arrests were the result of an ongoing investigation into the use and distribution of illegal drugs in the area. This investigation is continuing and may result in additional arrests and charges.

The joint investigation involved law enforcement officers from the Clay County Sheriff's Department, Parke County Sheriff's Department, Indiana State Police and the Martinsville Police Department.

The suspects remain in the Clay County Jail. An initial hearing has not yet been scheduled.
