LEAAP Center administrator is optimistic

Monday, January 17, 2005

LEAAP Center Administrator Mary Yelton has been approached by people wanting to know about the future of the Center.

During last week's school board meeting, the board voted 6-0 to not renew the contracts of Yelton and Cumberland Academy Principal Lisa Showalter.

The decision was made due to uncertainty about the future of the CAPE Grant.

However, Yelton is optimistic about the future of the LEAAP Center.

"We have the opportunity to apply to Lilly Endowment Inc. for an extension of $800,000 for 3-5 years," she told The Times. "We hope to submit the proposal by the end of March. We are also working on other grant possibilities."
