Preparation is the key for success, and the Clay County Highway Department takes it to heart.
"We've had five trucks hauling sand all day long," CCHD Mechanic Keith Mishler said, explaining that more than 280 tons of sand will be mixed with salt in preparation for the newest winter storm front due in over the weekend. "Drivers are available around the clock if the weather turns ugly."
Seven trucks were available Wednesday evening to spread a sand/salt mixture on approximately 700 miles of roads in Clay County to create safer driving conditions. The sand provides traction while the salt melts the ice.
