Senior Judge Dexter Bolin was appointed Pro Tem Judge of the Clay Circuit Court by Indiana Supreme Court Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard. The appointment began Jan. 18, when former Circuit Court Judge Ernest Yelton resigned to accept the position of Executive Director of the Indiana Gaming Commission offered to him by Governor Mitch Daniels.
Bolin said a Senior Judge can work as a Judge Pro Tempore, which literally means, for the time, or he can assist sitting judges with their case loads.
His Pro Tem appointment is from Jan. 18 through Jan. 28. Bolin said he could serve only those two weeks because he has previous obligations after the 28th. The former Vigo County Circuit Court Judge spoke about his Clay County duties Wednesday from the Circuit Court chambers.
"I'm not aware of any high-profile cases coming up in the next two weeks," he said. "So far I think things are going smoothly. They have a wonderful staff here. Everyone involved has been extremely helpful. I hope we can move promptly to an appointment of a new judge so we can resume with a regular judge in tow."
