Judge: Woman was given wrong court date at jail

Tuesday, February 22, 2005

- Clerical error was apparently jailer's mistake, not Superior Court staff's

According to Judge Blaine Akers, the clerical error concerning Jamie M. Harrington, was at the Clay County Jail and not at Clay Superior Court, as reported in Friday's edition of The Brazil Times.

Judge Akers told The Brazil Times on Monday that the discrepancy occurred when a jailer inadvertently wrote the wrong court date on a slip given to Harrington, resulting in her not appearing in Superior Court on the correct date.

A Clay County Superior Court Jail Rotation sheet obtained from Judge Akers shows Harrington was required to appear in court on Feb. 16 at 8:30 a.m.

Harrington showed the judge the slip given her by the jailer. The slip said she was to appear on Feb. 17, Akers said.
