When Rob Carter steps down from the position of Clay County Sheriff, the office will temporarily be filled by a man with 34 years of law enforcement experience.
"Clay County will be in very capable hands," Sheriff Carter said of Chief Deputy Larry Pierce who will become Acting Sheriff on March 7.
By Indiana statute, when a sheriff resigns, the position is filled by the chief deputy until a Republican caucus can convene and vote on a replacement.
"I've known Rob since he worked with my son at Danner's Department store," Pierce said. "I'm sure he will do a great job for the DNR."
Pierce has announced that he will place his application before the caucus for consideration to remain in the position for the duration of the term, which ends in 2006, and plans to seek the office at that time.
"I am honored to serve Clay County again," Pierce said.
