A Republican caucus to fill the position of Clay County Sheriff has been set for 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 19 in the Circuit Courtroom of the third floor of the Clay County Courthouse.
The resignation of former Sheriff Rob Carter became effective March 7, and Larry Pierce has taken over as Acting Sheriff in the meantime. Gov. Mitch Daniels chose Carter for a state-level law enforcement position as Director of Law Enforcement of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.
Any individual desiring to file for this position must fill out form CEB-5 available from the Election Office or Clay County Republican Central Committee Chairman Sharon Koehler. All forms CEB-5 must be filed with the chairman at least 72 hours prior to the caucus.
Koehler stressed that all precinct committeemen will be able to vote at the meeting, and their presence is requested at the meeting to vote for applicants that have filed to fill the vacancy. Those precinct committeemen unable to attend are encouraged to ask their vice-committeemen to vote their proxy in their absence.
Persons interested in filing for the position of Clay County Sheriff for the Republican caucus or members of the public may direct questions to the Election Office at 448-9023.
