Drummers invited to participate in peace effort

The local demonstration, "Bring the Troops Home Now!" to mark the second anniversary of the Iraq War will feature a drumming circle by the Sisters of Providence of Terre Haute.

Drummers will perform all over the world and at a peace demonstration on Saturday in front of the Vigo County Courthouse. The Terre Haute demonstration begins at 10 a.m. and will last until 12:30 p.m. Drumming will begin at noon in the Eastern time zone then travel around the world ending in Japan on March 20. All local drummers are invited to participate. The drummers will begin with 15 minutes of beating the heartbeat rhythm at noon then switch to freestyle drumming.

The demonstration is sponsored by Terre Haute Stop War on Iraq, a local group that is affiliated with the national organization United for Peace and Justice. The peace group meets on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at Coffee Grounds, 423 N. Wabash Ave. in Terre Haute at 7 p.m.

Anyone who now is opposed to the war is invited to attend the demonstration.
