The community's interest in the new Clay County Jail grows as construction continues inside to reach the scheduled completion of the project.
Clay County Jail Construction Project Representative Gary Rodgers is more than happy to show off the project to curious people and groups upon request at his office for a tour of the facility.
"People interested in seeing the work completed so far can contact my office for tour availability," Rodgers said. He explained that advance notice is important to ensure the safety of tour participants since construction occurs daily. "I've done tours for all kinds of people, from local officials to boy scout groups."
Tours, approximately an hour long, begin at the front atrium and progress throughout the building's floor plan of the administrative area, weapon storage facility and leading into the holding area for inmates, with many of the technological innovations available in the facility discussed at length.
Although work was delayed by the wet and snowy weather earlier in the year, the project is on schedule for completition in early October of this year.
Groups interested in taking a tour of the facility during the construction phase can contact Rodgers' office for details at 448-8499 during normal business hours Monday through Friday.
