The Clay Community School Corporation's Board of Trustees confirmed the appointments of two new Principals at last night's school board meeting.
Clay City High School's new Principal for the 2005/06 school year is Jeff Bell.
"I'm honored and humbled at being chosen for this position," Bell said after his appointment to the position by the board. "I'll try to do my best for the students, staff and the community of Clay City."
Bell has been an active force at the school for the past 13 years as a teacher, coach and now as Assistant Principal. The new position comes with a $70,000 income and a $15,000 fringe benefit package option for Bell.
The members of the school board then appointed Sheryl Jordan as the Principal of Staunton Elementary for the upcoming school year.
"I would like to thank the selection committee," Jordan said after her appointment. "And I look forward to working with the students and staff at Staunton Elementary."
It was because of the encouragement Jordan received after being a parent volunteer when her children attended Staunton Elementary some years ago that she began a career in education. The position as an elementary level Principal has an income of $62,000 with a $15,000 fringe benefit package option, and the potential of a salary increase in two years determined by job performance.
Bell and Jordan would not have believed this night was possible two years ago when they met at as interns at Indiana State University in 2003.
"We didn't even know each other then," Jordan said of their chance meeting and conversation in class one night. "It was so strange at the time, finding someone that you worked with in the same school corporation, taking the same classes together to get the same principal's license and you didn't even know each other until that moment."
"You just never know where life will take you," he said. "Who would have thought that two years later we'd be standing here together, getting the same job on the same night. It's a night I don't think we will ever forget."
Both Bell and Jordan will begin their new jobs with the start of the new school year.
