Churches ready to feed construction workers at camp

Tuesday, May 31, 2005

Members from seven local churches have joined together to arrange for supplies of food and refreshments for the volunteer work crews during the upcoming two-week construction effort at the Friendly Benwood Community Christian Youth Camp.

From all around the country, members of The Men and Women of ACTION, a volunteer construction group based in Tennessee, will start arriving at the camp on or around May 28. This is the second time the group has come to work on the youth camp. They were here in 2002 at the beginning of the camp's construction.

The volunteers, who will stay in local homes, are scheduled to begin work on bath/shower houses and do some landscaping on May 30.

"When the camp is finished it will be open to anyone that wishes to use it," Event Organizer Joy Jarvis said of the project. "We make sure that all the volunteers have three meals a day and a few snacks. And with 30 to 50 people a day, sometimes even more, there's a lot to do."

All the churches involved are now accepting monetary donations to cover the expense of the food and work supplies for the volunteers to use during the construction event. The participating churches include Benwood Mt. Lebanon Church, Carbon Baptist Church, Christ Community Church, Church Of God, Friendly Grove, Rosedale Baptist and Pleasant Valley.

Donations can also be sent to the camp address, which is Friendly Benwood Community Christian Youth Camp, 525 E. CR 1200 N, Brazil, Ind., 47834. If any questions, please contact Event Organizer Joy Jarvis at 442-5685.
