A head on collison north of Clay City Wednesday sent two drivers to separate hospitals in serious condition.

A Pontiac Bonneville and a Ford Ranger collided on State Road 46 less than a mile west of S.R. 59 blocking traffic in both directions for nearly an hour. The driver of the Bonneville traveling east "became faint after experiencing chest pain. After awaking, she noticed she had crossed the center line. She tried to correct and struck vehicle No. 2 head on," according to a report filed by Indiana State Police Trooper Chris Carter.

Sandra Ames, 58, of Center Point, was flown to Methodist Hospital by Air Evac after suffering a "severe leg injury." Donald L. Yegerlehner, 59, of Clay City, was taken by Transcare to St. Vincent Clay with hip pain and abrasions, the report said.

Responders to the scene included the Indiana State Police, Clay County Sheriff's Department, Clay County Search and Rescue, Center Point Fire Department, Cory Fire Department, Air Evac and Transcare.
