On the heels of the announcement of the second annual Wavestock Concert in Waveland, Ind., the Waveland entertainment committee has announced they are having yet another big musical event. A Battle of the Bands has been organized in order to raise money in support of the July 23, Wavestock concert featuring country music artist Sawyer Brown.
The Battle of the Bands is planned for July 2 at Lake Waveland Park, the same venue as the Sawyer Brown Concert located in Waveland.
Director of Entertainment Lora Arts said the musical contest is open to bands in the country/pop music genre and will feature a little different twist in the judging.
Music fans in attendance at the Battle of the Bands will be encouraged to vote for their favorite act in the contest by donating money in one of the dedicated coffers for each band.
Donations will go to the Town of Waveland to help fund the Wavestock Sawyer Brown Concert. The winning band will be rewarded with the privilege of being the opening act at the concert. Any band interested in competing in the Battle of the Bands should send a non-returnable demo disk or tape along with a short band bio, photograph and contact information to Waveland Battle of the Bands, P.O. Box 101, Waveland, IN 47989.
The Battle of the Bands will begin at 11 a.m. and festivities will include food and drink vendors with boating, swimming and camping facilities available at Lake Waveland and will culminate with a Fourth of July Fireworks display at the lake. Admission to the Battle of the Bands is free, however, there is a $4 per car-load admission to the Lake Waveland Park.
