According to the Clay County Sheriff's Department, around 7:23 p.m. Friday, Benjamin C. Harris, was driving west at a high rate of speed on CR 500 N. in a 1991 Buick, when he disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of CR 200 E. and struck a blue 1986 Ford pickup driven by John Baker, causing it to roll on its side.
Deputy Josh Clarke arrived at the scene to determine that there was no one trapped in the vehicle. Victims received minor injuries.
According to the accident report, Harris, of 5190 W. Depot St., Cory, said he was able to see the other vehicle but was traveling too fast and could not get stopped in time. Harris also stated that his attempt at steering his vehicle into a ditch in an effort to avoid the crash was unsuccessful.
Baker, of 255 SE Court, Bowling Green, also told officers that he saw the Harris vehicle coming at him, but was unable to do anything to stop the collision.
Baker's vehicle suffered extensive damage, while the Harris vehicle suffered heavy damage to the front end of the vehicle.
The two passengers in the Harris vehicle and the two in the Baker vehicle suffered minor injuries.
