William Schad learned Friday morning he will no longer be superintendent of Clay Community Schools after his contract expires on June 30, 2006.

Schad said School Board President Steven Grigsby and Board Member Joseph Thomas informed him of the board's decision.

Schad said he was not surprised.

"When I came here, I did not expect to be able to last," he told The Times on Friday afternoon. "I knew the financial situation would cost me my job in the long run."

The Clay Community School Board of Trustees "is known throughout the state for the way it plays politics," Schad said. "I don't like the politics."

On the other hand, the superintendent praised the personnel in the Clay school system.

"This is an outstanding school system. We have had two good years," he said.

Schad is considering all his options and does not know if he will stay until his contract expires in June. He may retire.

"I'm considering all my options," he said.

Board member Joe Thomas declined to comment about the meeting.

"I don't think it's appropriate for me to say anything," he said.

The Times was unable to reach Steve Grisby Friday afternoon.
